  1. I used labs, lectures, and also used cooperative learning. First I used a power-point and lectured my students about plate tectonics. Then in groups they started the food lab, using cooperative learning. They worked together to actually do the lab and finished it in 15 minutes. After the lab, they reflected on what they learned by writing a short summary about it. I used management skills by checking the time and constantly checking if the students were on task the whole time.

    2. This sounds really cool! I really like how you gave students time to be hands-on with the lesson. I also like how you made them reflect at the end of the lesson.

  2. The day of J.A training, I taught the differences between needs and wants to my first grade class. I used a cooperative teaching strategy and made the students work as a class and then broke them down into groups. Classroom management was important during my lesson because we had to teach other lessons, so we had to keep track of time.

    1. It was a good idea that you broke them into groups. Cooperative learning helps kids learn a lot better. Was it difficult for you to keep them on track throughout the lessons?

  3. The startegies I used to teach the students about Families in our neighnborhood was demonstration. On the overhead I showed them how and where to place the stickers on their books. Also as went through the books, we all read together. Classroom maanagment was important so the students would know exactly what is going on,and everybody is on the same pace. For example some students were getting ahead and putting sticker on wrong pages, they were confusing other students near them.

    2. I really liked how you guys made sure that the students were on the same pace as you guys but maybe you should of tried to refrain from the overhead. Sometimes students get too confident "knowing" what is next. Maybe try just picking a person for each page, otherwise then that I really liked what you did for your lesson.

    3. Its a good idea that you made sure that all of the kids were together because if they were not, it would have gone bad, but I also lke the lesson idea

  4. well the lesson was about being able to work together and create donuts. In the lesson Sweet O' Donuts, students were divided in to four groups and raced to see who create the most donuts without defect. It was a game, cooperative learning, role playing, and simulation learning. It was very important for the students to be able to use the strategies in their daily lives, and understand how to use them in other lessons and situations.

    2. It was a great lesson, I thought it was great for them to be able to see what other ways they could stick the stickers without touching. it made them wake up and get a little active because it was a timed activity. I'm glad they had fun and we had fun ! Great job.

  5. Lesson strategies that I used were reading, writing, and question&answer. I read the story to them and throughout the story i was asking questions to make sure they were comprehending the story. Afterwards they did a worksheet that went along with the story. They had to draw their favorite animals and answer the question why it was their favorite animal.

    1. I think reading a book to the kids was a great way to start your JA lesson. Then having them draw and be active is a great way to have there energy be put into a greater effect. Was it difficult at times to keep their attention the whole time.

    2. It wasn't that difficult because I was walking around to keep them on task.

    3. Asking questions is a good way to start a group conversation.

  6. when I started, I lectured and asked questions at the same time. If they were to talk, I would put my hand up and do a bubble in my mouth. I introduced the words community, need , want and job. I had them give me an example for each of the words. when that was done, we moved on to play tic tac toe, using job cards with descriptions of them. I would say some facts about them and they would have to look for them as a group.

    1. that was a very smart idea with the bubble idea and putting your hand up to get them to be quite. also good job on using words that they learned throughout the lesson.

    2. I like the attention grabber with the bubble, because i use a similar method in my classroom at internship, and using the game to teach allows for a fun time to learn and I like that Idea a lot, and feel that in your lessons, you should use the game idea more

    1. Besides the minor grammar issues it seems like it was a well planned lesson. It seems like that the students really understood the lesson.

    2. Sounds like a great game that was undercontrol for the grade level.

  9. In my lesson, i grouped students together to play the donut game. The students were given a recipe on how to make donuts. They were given a 5 minute period to make donuts with no mistakes. After the 5 minutes were over, they counted how many donuts they made correctly and how many had defects. After we had a winner, the students reflected by creating a new donut which they drew and wrote about.

    1. When grouping was it hard to keep them on task? It seems like the activities went well though.

  10. They were given a monopoly board type game board, account transaction management sheet, and dice to play the game. They were split by table into groups, so while playing a game, collaborative learning was used. We had to make sure that the kids were on task, not too loud, and nice to each other. One student in one of the groups was being rude to the rest of the group, so I had to keep an eye on that group the most.

  11. My lesson plan was about how families are alike or different. I used the question and answer technique as my teaching strategy. Classroom management was very important because many of the children wanted to talk but we had to find ways to get there attention or get them back on task. So while teaching, I would ask questions that have to do with their families and they would stand up and share to the classroom when called on.
